The growing challenge with EBPR systems is that the removed phosphorus becomes part of the TSS and sludge. This mix is typically land applied as fertilizer. While good in theory, the phosphorus applied usually far exceeds what the crops can absorb. Consequently, much of the phosphorus nutrient inevitably ends in nearby waterways. Restrictions on landspreading are increasing and making nutrient removal by other means an inevitable necessity.
Procorp phosphorus removal pellet reactor process is at the forefront of this issue, offering a vastly superior means to manage and even eliminate phosphorus from the waste cycle.
